If it's the bit I'm thinking about, you can replace it with a U-shaped bolt - it has a nut at each end and a plate across the open end.

You can get them from B&Q or TV aerial retailers.

The general concensus of opinion is that they are not very good.

I have found an independent review of them on another forum here which my help you make up your mind and warn you about other budget makes.
