Thank you all very much, I am still obviously rather confused as to what might be best for me but I certainly know more as to what I want from a scope... I want to view near planets, the moon and deep space objects... I only intend to use the scope in the garden so portability is not a priority... I...

Recommendations on short list...

Hello guys and girls, I have been looking at some new telescopes within my budget and have come up with a pretty comprehensive short list that I would like to wittle down a little... I would ask you to base your recommendations upon my requirements if you'll be so kind as to have a quick glance... I...

dave, Thanks so much for writting in such detail, it is very interesting to get the opinion of someone whom has only recently started out. I suppose it is a little difficult to answer all of the questions ahead of actually purchasing a scope. At this time my intention is to predominently use the sco...

Cheers Joe, I suppose if I knew what to look for regarding common faults and problems when buying second hand then I would be more confident... If I were buying a fishing rod for instance I would now just what to check for when buying second hand but I now zip about scopes at this time and would not...

I suppose I wasn't thinking of it being in a phase but just expected a full(ish) moon...

Where is the moon at the moment?

Just that really,

I have been wanting to see it for the last 2 nights so to have a look at it with my binoculars, but I haven't seen it at all...?

Cheers Mike, My brother suggested the very same thing to me yesterday. His friend Steven has been into Astronomy for years now and I am meeting him this weekend to have a chat to him and possibly look to join his club which is local to me... :) I have got two threads running on here now (which isn't...

Cheers guys, I appreciate your honesty in that I should drastically reduce my expectations. I know that I'm still going to enjoy it and I'm really looking forward to being able to show my son some amazing things. OK, he's only 10 weeks old, but that will give me time to learn a few things... :...

Cheers Liz, It's nice to know what I can expect in pictural terms. I am in Barking which is more East London really. I was having a look around with my Binoculars last night as we had a wonderfully clear sky without much light polution from what I could gather which was great... As I say, I am not s...

Best scope to get this sort of image?

Good morning all, Expanding on my previous question I have now come up with a £300 budget to buy a second hand telescope. Instead of trying to explain as to what sort of images I would hope to achieve I thought I'd just show you a picture of what I would like to see... I suspect I may be laughed at...

Hi guys thanks for your comments on my thoughts... Mark, you make a very good point there in that there are so many fine lines to be walked when discussing the issue of something having always existed... Yep the head very much hurts and I haven't even taken a sip of my coffee yet so I'm not going to...

Hello all, I am also an inquisitive newbie to Astronomy but have to agree with Mark that this question just begs to be asked... It has been widely suggested that time and matter did not exist before the forming of our Universe... To me, this theory is very much a stark contradiction in itself... For...
