Re: Doggy Astronomy !

Doggy astronomy or dodgy astronomy, I'm a fan of anything that lifts our noses up off the floor Cliff. Have you see the Sun by the way? There's a small, new spot near the the limb that is followed by a crazy long path of faculae. Best wishes, Bob

Re: Comet Neowise

Hello Cliff, I like your interesting sequence of images that show the scale of the comet. I am intrigued by the "close up" shot at the end because it clearly shows the effects of twilight, low altitude and light pollution on the visibility of the comet which peters out roughly between the two faint ...

Re: Comet c/2020 F3 Neowise

Yes Jan, although the conditions were unfavourable with the comet near lower culmination in the summer twilight; you can judge how unfavourable by the fact that I was able to sketch at the eyepiece with no red torch, just using the ambient light from the twilight and neighbours houses. I forgot to m...

Re: Comet C/2020 F3 NEOWISE

This must be THE image of comet Neowise. My visual impressions are similar to yours, it seems to be getting a bit fainter. Thanks for posting this.
Kind thoughts, Bob

Re: C/2020 F3 (NEOWISE) 10/11 July 2020

Observed in a clear sky at midnight between 2020 July 19 and 20th, in 15x63 binoculars. The coma appeared less condensed (fuzzier) than on July 11 (see my previous post) and the comet looked dimmer as a whole, an impression seemingly confirmed by the fact that I could only just catch the merest glim...

Re: C/2020 F3 (NEOWISE) 10/11 July 2020

Observed at 2330 UT on 2020 July 11 in deep twilight. An unaided eye estimate of the comets brightness is approx. vmag 1.0 by comparison with Beta Aurigae. Regards Bob

Re: C/2020 F3 (NEOWISE) 10/11 July 2020

"Bring me my spear, o clouds unfold!" Comet Neowise seen for the first time at the same time as Jeff. Best seen from the upstairs bedroom window - a pale shaft over the northern horizon. Not seen in the twilight with unaided vision but picked up in 10x50 binoculars and best seen in 15x 63s. Impossib...

Re: Betelgeuse

Astronomers say the dimming was caused by giant star spots and not by dust. See article in BBC news - science and environment.

SOHO Lasco c3 image 2020/06/23 at 20:30

Looking at the Lasco c3 image at 20.30 there is a bright comet-like image in the outer part of the FOV at about the 5 o'clock position. Anyone know if there's a comet in the SOHO field?

New Sunspot

Spotted this evening when the clouds broke and the Sun shone through for an interval. The seeing was poor and I could only make out one spot near the limb amongst the blurriness there with 60mm at f15 by projection. Regards, Bob
