Re: Jupiter and Saturn closing in ..
A clear evening on a Christmas Eve - what more could I ask for, and another opportunity to see the pairing of Jupiter and Saturn now they have swapped places. This cropped image was taken at 5:24pm, although I began following Jupiter at about 4:00pm using an 8x40 Olympus binocular. By 4:20pm I could...

Re: Staying logged in to this bulletin board
Can you have another try for me please, SkyBrowser, and see if the "remember me" feature works for you now.

I’d still be interested in seeing your snapshots, Brian. Always good to see the observations of others - each offers their own perspective I think.

Lovely to see your detailed sketches, Mike.
What a beautiful view of them this evening. I feel very blessed to have had a lovely hour watching them from a viewpoint overlooking the Staffordshire countryside.
Best wishes, Jeff.

Re: Staying logged in to this bulletin board
I do have the same problem, SkyBrowser. I think we have looked at the issue before and never quite got to the bottom of it. I’ll see if I can refresh my memory. I tend to read this forum using the web browser on my smartphone, via a bookmark link, in which I have my username and password saved. So t...

Re: Jupiter and Saturn closing in ..
Barring a miracle, according to the latest BBC weather forecast, it looks like tonight will be my last opportunity to see the pairing until the end of next week. Here in North Staffs there will be clear spells after 4pm. I hope some are lucky enough to get clear skies tomorrow, and that you are able...

Re: Jupiter and Saturn closing in ..
After long spells of clear skies today, the heavy cloud and solid rain moved in just at the key observing time. Miraculously, it cleared at 5:20pm, and I managed to make this observation of the pair, which had conveniently slipped into a gap between the rooftops by 5:30pm.

Re: Jupiter and Saturn closing in ..
Well done Mike. It looked promising here for a short while, but then the key area was covered in cloud. I bet it looked fabulous. The crescent will be a little higher tomorrow night, so perhaps another opportunity.

Lovely detailed report, Dave. I’m very envious of your Canon IS binocular. I’ve read the stabilisation and optical quality is a superb combination.

Re: Meet Simon Ploessl
A very interesting read, Mike. Thanks for posting. I’d not read about Ploessl before, despite having used eyepieces of that design. The older I get, the more I realise I still have so much to learn.

Re: Geminids 2020
Inspired by SkyBrowser, I have been out observing tonight (16th Dec from 8:12pm to 9:12pm), and I have seen a total of one Geminid. It was, however, nice and bright at about -1. I think my limiting magnitude this evening was about +3.5. The sky transparency improved slightly towards the end of the h...
