Agree that batteries must be fresh. My laser is 50 mW and is a LIGHT SABRE. Absolutely brilliant for aligning my 4SE. I keep it warm with the wife´s hair dryer in the winter.

Hasn´t this always been a problem with solid state electronics? I can remember my tranny, back in the 60s, distorted badly when it was used in the winter outside.

Skylux 70mm f10

Great beginner´s scope, and a classic. Skylux with all accessories, diagonal, barlow, 20, 12 and 4 mm EPs. Astro-3 EQ mount, with RA motor drive supplied by Teleskop-Service.
I need the space, make me an offer.
Currently in Spain, but no problem, I will get a ´man and van´to deliver.

The Skylux 70mm f10 was always great value, shame it doesn´t seem to be made any more.
Mine got me started in astronomy - for sale now!!

I have an EQ5, and it is a quite heavy enough beast as it is.

Has a binary companion, but not easy to split them, due to the glare from Sirius.

So why not have a general discussion ´anything goes´ section - the BBC Sky at Night forum does. And we all have things in our lives other than squint through telescopes.

Presumably to do a thorough job you will have to dismantle it totally.

I always think eyepieces are a good investment - buy the best you can afford. When the time comes to upgrade you will probably sell your starter scope, along with the plossls to another beginner, but will keep the eyepieces you buy. I am quite sold on the Baader Hyperion range at the moment - they h...

joe, you can use a satellite dish in Paris - and a lot smaller one than I have to use as well.
I get most mainstream UK stations (except BBC2 for some reason) and hundreds of other free to air stations, including Al Jazeera news in English. And all BBC radio. And no licence fee.

Coldest weather for 20 years, I have heard. That will really annoy the global warming panickers. A deliberately provocative statement, methinks? I'm surprised that an intelligent an informed person like yourself stoops to such levels. Global warming does not mean the end of freezing weather. Of cou...

As I said to my neighbour yesterday - the global warming panickers will probably find a way to blame the low temperatures on global warming.
