Type Ia Supernova question

Type Ia supernovae occur when a white dwarf star explodes due to accretion of matter from a companion star, usually a red giant star. my question is : does the companion star get destroyed in the explosion :?: :idea: :arrow: im assuming given the scale of supernovas that it would be. :? ive searched...

best thing to do if you want a scope for more than a couple of thousand is to go to the usa yourself. :wink: (youd have to decide wether you wanted to declare it when you got back to uk customs.. :evil: :twisted: ) or find a friend in america to buy it and bring it to you :) ( :idea: he could say it...
