There is a 60,000 character limit on each post, but you would be hard pressed to reach that limit -- it is equivalent to a substantial short story. I think the timeout explanation is the best one, though I can't find a setting to change this straight away.

Re: Peter Grego
I've been asked by Tina and Jacy Grego to pass on their thanks to all those members who have posted their tributes to Peter, which they very much appreciate. She writes: Jacy and I have seen quite a number of messages posted on the SPA forum which have been of some comfort; knowing how well Peter wa...

This post looks very much like a straight advert. While I have no objection to suppliers offering advice and opinions, I can't accept blatant advertising puff.

Re: Contacting the Comets Director
Hi Mike,
I can't account for the wrong message, but I know that the contact form does work even though the message may be wrong. Section directors don't necessarily check the Forum, but I'll remind them that it is a good source of info about what is going on.
Best wishes

Re: Glow Worms and Planets
There is a UK Glow Worm Survey, which collects data on glow-worm numbers so as to try to quantify the change in numbers and work out reasons for it. Anyone seeing glow worms in the UK is urged to fill in the reporting form at http://www.glowworms.org.uk/newform.php . I have already notified the surv...

Altair Astro problems
On 21 May I ordered a couple of items from Altair Astro and on 26 May I received an email to say that the order had been completed. My credit card was charged for the amount on 21 May, the day I placed the order. But to date nothing has been received, and they have not replied to an email on 2 June ...

Sage advice, as always, Stella. I will make a note of the time in future.A great effort, spoilt by inattention to detail.
April already, is it? How time flies....

Re: Comet Lovejoy C/2014Q2 New Year Comet
It's great to see how long this comet has lasted! On the evening of 6 April [corrected] I attempted a magnitude estimate -- not something I often do -- using a variety of binoculars. I defocused the binoculars so that the stars had the same appearance as the comet. In my Canon 10 x 30 image-stablise...
