Hi Malcolm,

You should have been using your Mak-Newt :P
Had a brilliant view (overall) from Norfolk - will post a report later.

The almost full moon will be interfering significantly with your ability to pick these out in a 10 x 42 Monocular. They should be fairly easy with this instrument in a dark sky.

I picked it up last night at 8pm in my 15 x 70 binoculars but with the bright moon up it was just a faint fuzzy blob. Slightly fainter than 78 Hercules which it was near but brighter than the 2 fainter stars adjacent to 78 - I estimated about mag 6.

I would recommend joining your local society and having a look through various types of telescopes and mounts as well as getting the owners views. If it was 4.5 on Tuesday I would say it was about mag 5 tonight. The tail is definitely longer though. I could see 2.5 degs i...

You're probably right on the brightness, mine (4.8 to 5) was just a guesstimate from comparing to M13 and M92.

Re: Comet Swan M4 Bright

Just looked out to see the comet using 7 x 50 and 8 x 42....it seemsd remarkably bright to me... far brighter than M13. Do look and report here. Mike Tuesday 1919 BST Agreed - Brilliant! Just got in from a 6 hour observing session - was starting to fall asleep at the eyepiece! Had the comet in my s...
