Theft from Paul Money
Paul Money (Lincs) has posted the following on his Facebook page. Anyone who comes across such a mounting under suspicious circumstances, or is asked to help set one up or help with obtaining the hand controller, should consider alerting their local police: Saddened to report that sometime overnight...

Re: Advice for a young stargazer
Hi Ann, I'm sorry that you haven't had a reply to your post so far. It may be that the reason is that you can't really get a worthwhile Go To telescope for around £250. There may be some on eBay but they will probably be of dubious quality and reliability. I haven't looked there but Go To is notorio...

Re: How to guide with a toucam ???
I have used my Toucam to guide my HEQ5 Pro successfully. You need a reasonably fast guide scope (I used 60 mm f/5) so you can find guide stars down to about mag 6 or maybe 7. This considerably limits the number available so you need a fair amount of adjustment on the direction of the guide scope. As...

Re: Time lapse
Nice videos! I was last in Tenerife on Las Canadas 15 years ago for the Leonids. In those far-off days we still only had film cameras! It seems hard to believe that it was so recent, but the digital revolution had still to take place for everyday purposes. But what strikes me is that the light pollu...

John Dobson dies at 98
We hear that John Dobson, who devised the popular Dobsonian style of reflecting telescope as a cheap means of mounting a Newtonian reflector, died on 15 January. I will be writing a piece about him for Popular Astronomy which I need to get done very shortly. I know that John came to the UK to give t...
