Following on from a discussion in a previous Observing section post, here are two pictures of a particularly bright Sundog (Parhelia) taken by Mike Feist on the 12th December, which I am posting on Mike's behalf.

It's a bright, colourful and impressive example. I think I've only seen a couple of these this year, and neither were as prominent as in Mike's attached pictures. They are fascinating to see. I find observing the daytime sky equally as interesting as the night time sky on many occasions.

Best wishes, Jeff.

Really intense images. I particularly like the cloud structure revealed in the "close up" shot. Bob

Thank you Jeff for posting these photographs on my behalf. I am glad that other readers like them too. (p.s. I have since then managed to update the time on the camera to GMT!) regards skywatcher mike, Sussex.

Hi Cliff. Good to hear from you again. :) All the best for the forthcoming year.

By the way I see that Spaceweather.com is suggesting we keep an eye out for "Super Moondogs" this coming full (super) Moon (1-2 Jan),

regards,
