Brightening comet??

Post by mike a feist »

Came across a story that Comet Panstarrs c/2017 S3 has erupted in brightness by as much as 16x would get much brighter. First thought it one of those stories but seems supported elsewhere including a photograph. Is in Camelopardalis. At 6th magnitude in August and mentions 3rd magnitude and even minus magnitudes. Seemed interesting. Further investigation however seems to suggest that although it has brightened, as usual some predictions are 'over the top' with 4 or 6 being suggested. It could also 'do an Ison ' and disintegrate at perihelion. I gave the predicted current position a good look using Nikon zoom scope early this morning and came across the interesting cluster Stock 23 or Pazmino's Cluster nearby but, as I expected, nothing else at present. Regards maf.
