Spectacular Dawn Sky

Post by mike a feist »

Monday 7th October, 2019: Just before 7a.m. BST. From the Mile Oak Valley, the Sun had not yet risen above Foredown Hill but the ripple clouds above it were painted with a lovely pink-red for a a short while. That was looking out of the east-facing bedroom window. Then I ventured to the west facing window to look across Southwick Hill and there stood a short piece of the left hand side of a primary rainbow! This all certainly brightened up my morning! But by 7.15 a.m. all was gone, replaced by a dismal grey sky. Regards maf

Yes, I also noted those ripple clouds before sunrise today. There was just enough clearance of the clouds along my east horizon for the pink pre-sunrise glow to illuminate the slightly lower troughs from the (north-south) ripple peak/trough sequence to the east. So several bands of pink, grey, pink, grey, each band running N-S but spread across the sky from the east towards the west.

Hope that makes sense :)
