Messier 104

Post by Ian Papworth »

This is my first attempt to image M104, it was very low and light pollution was a problem so not the best image.

That's a nice image of the object Ian, small but showing the main features well. This galaxy is on an interesting inclination, as shown in Hubble images. The galaxy has a swarm of up to 2000 globular clusters.

I love M104. Always a tricky one but a beauty. Great effort

Hi Ian,
You've done very well to get a shot of M104.
Low targets are always tricky, I try to keep my imaging to targets higher than 45°if at all possible but that means I miss a lot of interesting objects.
What were the exposure details? I find that low objects and high levels of light pollution limit me to 120 second exposures max, sometimes less.
Good job.
David.

Thanks

David

The exposure time for this was 140 x 10 sec exposures stacked in Deep sky stacker with added dark frames.

Now bought a Neximage5 for our close neighbours instead. Awesome shots on your webpage BTW.
