Planetary nebula NGC 2392 (Eskimo)

Post by Wayne Roberts »

I'm reasonably certain ,but am seeking confirmation, that the progenitor star of the Eskimo nebula is 10th magnitude HIP 36369. My uncertainty resides in the proximity, 2.5" away, of 11th magnitude USNO J0729109+205441 (There's another, USNO J07299107+205442, 19th magnitude, less than 0.1" away [from the HIP designate]).

I think this is a question that would require the attention of an expert in planetary nebulae! Two come to mind. Prof Raman Prinja:

and Prof Bruce Balick:

Good luck with your research.
