Post subject:  Jupiter at Opposition

Jupiter reaches opposition today at 16:00 UT. At that time, it shines brightly at magnitude -2.6, subtends 46.0 arc seconds, has a declination of -22 degrees, and is 36 light minutes from the Earth. Since the Earth is currently heading towards aphelion and Jupiter towards perihelion, the Earth and Jupiter will actually be at their closest on June 12th (see the second link).
