On June 22, a multi-metered asteroid entered Earth's atmosphere and exploded, then fragmented near the island of Puerto Rica. The event was visually recorded by the GEOS earth satellite.
The asteroid exploded with a force of 3 to 5 kilotons of TNT. The object is thought not to have been connected with this month's Taurid Swarm. See today's http://www.spaceweather.com .

That's a GOES satellite. GEOS are two other projects: One European, the other American.
Both gave them the same name. Doh.

The 'asteroid' might well be from the beta Taurid stream. Will be interesting
to see if that is the case.

Thanks Stella. It GOES to show the confusion that there is when we also don't include the -16.
The object's orbit suggests that it was an asteroid that had escaped from the asteroid belt, rather than being a Taurid. See today's http://www.spaceweather.com for an update.
