In 2013, the moving gas cloud shown in the closest view of the galaxy's centre will collide with the supermassive black hole, Saggitarius A*, at the centre of the galaxy.
The cloud is now only 36 light hours away from the black hole and beginning to interact with it.
Astrophysicists are looking forward to witnessing an interesting event when the collision occurs. As the gas gets drawn into the black hole will the astrophysicists witness a ring of light, revealing the event horizon?
