It shows how amazingly dynamic our planet is and why some people are apt to regard Earth almost as a living entity ( allowing for the biosphere ).

My thoughts exactly, Brian, just like an organism. Modern findings continue to amaze us.

I suspect that it has an appropriate defence mechanism against human interference, too!
