An idea

Post by makman140 »

Hi All,

I did post this on another site and it was suggested that I post it here.

How about a 'How to fight Light Polution' resource page / sticky links page?

It could cover:
Current laws (full & summary versions)
Pro forma letters (that have been used & had an effect)
Contact details of people active in the fight against light polution.
A list of things to do / procedures.
How to gather support in your area
Threat alert page

Basically a tool kit so the small guy can have a chance.

Cheers

Wouldn't that sort of double up on the work being done by the CfDS?

Yes but no but yes but ...
Sorry but we need to do more on this site ... we need to start doing something rather than going on about, "when I was a Lad" , a link from here to this site would be a start.

You know for sure that nobody on here is doing anything? How about the recent Barnsley stuff? Doesn't that count as one example of people doing more than just talking about it?

As for links: how many links do you want?

Also, I'd have thought that anyone who is serious about doing something about light pollution in the UK would start off with the obvious Google search.

There is, of course, something to be said for having a sticky post in this forum that points people at the CfDS for more information... (admins, mods, what do you think?)

My thoughts exactly. It does mean that the link is on the Forum twice but it would probably be helpful to have it at the top here.

Hi,

The point I am trying to make is the info / support should be as easy to find as possible. There are those who are not that confident with inernet searches etc. I was an IT manager and I have problems wading through the net / results.

If we had a sticky it would be at the top of this forum and be an easy hit. Ok it may duplicate data / links but better that than people giving up as they think nobody is doing anything about it.

There are some great posts on this site but it would be better if the information they contained were in a summary form.

A set of ready made arguments would help the less confident (like me!)

I pointed out to somebody who has no interest in the night sky that his council tax was paying for the light polution, lecky is not free; this change his point of view!

Cheers & Merry Christmas

A sticky post with a pointer to the CfDS will be happening real soon now.

Hi,

Very many thanks.

I hope this makes a small difference at least.

Thank you

Geoff
