It's not just stargazers who suffer from light pollution problems:

Signature count has now passed 10,000. Government will now have to respond (eventually I guess given current events)

The Government have now responded to this petition. Seems a balanced response?
See the petition page: https://petition.parliament.uk/petitions/119428

Bear in mind 100,000 signatures would be required for this to be discussed in Parliament.

Let's have a referendum. It would probably be a disaster like the recent one.

Hello, can the SPA email members directly (like a newsletter thingy) and alert them to this? I didn't know about it and have just signed. Kind Regards Bob

Hi Bob. We tried :)

The petition was featured in SPA Newsletter No.45 (May 30th) and has also appeared at the top of the SPA Homepage (click the SPA logo top left of this page) under the "Top News Story" banner. I'm not sure if it was tweeted via the SPA Twitter feed as well but I will be surprised if it wasn't.

Anyway the original target figure was reached UK-wide so we can all be quite pleased. Getting to the 100,000 signatures target though? I'm not over-confident.

Regards,
