Does anyone know a good dark site in Essex?

Post by dan the mano »

I live in Basildon in Essex and I have heard that the Dengie Peninsula is a good site but it is quite vast! Does anyone know a specific place where it is both dark and safe-ish!? Any help would be great, Thanks.

Don't know thw area, but have had a look at LP maps, and it does look pretty good around that area.
Maybe see how far East you can get from Burnham on crouch, or Southminster.
It's all marsh land out there though insn't it? - So I'd check locally to see how safe those roads are at night - looking at the map, the roads just seem to loop round into the marshes and back out, so i can't see there being much traffic out there at night.

Alternatively, the area out beyond Southend also looks pretty dark - around 'churchend' - again though, I'd check locally first.

Good Sites in Essex

Courtsend, along with Churchend are on the island of Foulness and I should think they would be very good astro sites. Unfortunatly the island is MOD property and you need a pass from them to gain access.
