I'm trying to persuade my wife that we desparately need to move to either the interioir of British Columbia, Canada or perhaps Arizona...

The kid says:
At my old house you looked up and saw three, maybe four stars. Here you can see hundreds and thousands - even the Milky Way.
That is so sad. 'Even the Milky Way'. As a teenager in Nottingham's suburbs, I could always see the Milky Way up near the zenith.

And I am lucky that I never doubt seeing the Milky Way where I am. Can't say it was the primary reason for being here, but it's certainly a big plus.
