How would the night sky look if you turned off all the light

Post by Space1234 »

How would the night sky look if you turned off all the lights in the world? If all the lights on the side of the world where it was night were turned off, then there'd be no light pollution, so how would the sky look?

Cloudy -- on a night that well arranged it would be cloudy.

Hi

It will have a dull grey apearence.
It is one of those myths, to think that it will
be black with no light pollution.

Howscome then the sky is inky black when I am lucky to be somewhere where there is hardly any stray light? Is it really dull grey but my eyes "make" it black because of the orange skies I'm used to?

Hi Joe

I was waiting for someone to reply to this, as I always
thought that my old dark skies were black.

Even from the darkest observing site, there is illumination
from solar sytem dust and natural skyglow.
If you hold your hand up against the sky, you will easily see
it outlined against the background, which is a dull grey.
I think that us humans like to think that it is black, due to the
usual rubbish skies that we have to suffer.
