ESA chooses its Mars man ..

Post by brian livesey »

The European Space Agency has chosen Dr. Christian Schroeder of the University of Stirling to join the team that will control the Agency’s European-Russian ExoMars Rosalind Franklin rover, planned for launch next year.
The rover controllers will be based at the Rover Operation Control Centre in Turin, Italy. The Mars rover is the first of its type to use a drill long enough to penetrate two metres into the Martian soil to analyse molecules.
When the rover lands on Mars in June 2023 it will spend at least 230 Earth days in the search for previous life on the planet. Dr. Schroeder said: “This mission has been in the making for a long time and it will be great to see it finally taking off, and significant to be in a leading role when this happens.”
