Hello Rowan, S Orionis isn't on our Society's variable star observing programme, so I suppose that's mainly the reason why. With some exceptions, our programme tends to focus on unaided eye and binocular variables that reach 5th or 6th visual magnitudes at their brightest. S Orionis seems to peak between 7th and 8th magnitude, leaving little of it's light cycle observable for most of us. If you go to the "Popastro" home page and then click on Observing Sections and select Variable Star Section. You will see the heading for Observing programme, which lists several variables in Orion that are not hard to find and follow. Kind thoughts to you, Bob
