Todays Spaceweather.com recalls the Halloween Solar Flares of late October 2003 which significantly affected Earth satellites. The culprit was AR486 , I recall I imaged this beauty (beasty) with my 102mm refractor and Toucam webcam :

Here is a "whole disk" view taken a revolution later with the 60mm f5 finderscope on my 8inch DK Cass (Toucam again)

It seems rather strange to see spots numbered as low as AR486, now we are used to seeing AR3000+. Time flies!
